About the campaign

The Be Plant Wise Campaign has been adapted with permission from the similar campaign in Britain (http://nonnativespecies.org/). The campaign was formally and publicly launched on this website for both Northern Ireland and Ireland on the 08 March 2012. This was supported with press releases which are available on the following links:

In Northern Ireland, Mr. Alex Atwood MLA, the Minister for Environment, launched the campaign while the Northern Ireland Environment Agency circulated campaign packs to all identified retailers that sell aquatic plants. Download a copy of the letter issued to retailers in Northern Ireland:

In Ireland, Mr. Jimmy Deenihan T.D., Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht launched the campaign while Invasive Species Ireland presented the campaign to industry representatives at the annual Bord Bia Amenity Seminar. Download a copy of the letter issued to retailers in Ireland:
